Classification of Container Materials

The container is a combination of two or more of the four basic materials of steel, wood, aluminum alloy, and glass fiber reinforced plastic. According to the different materials used in the main part of the container, the container can be divided into steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and glass fiber reinforced plastic.

1. Steel container

Both frame and box wall panels are made of steel. The advantages are high strength, firm structure, good weldability and water tightness, low price, easy repair, and not easy to damage. The main disadvantages are heavy weight and poor corrosion resistance. Nowadays, corrugated steel is generally used as the outer plate for the steel plate of the steel container, and its corrugation can play the role of strengthening the outer plate together with the side column and the end column.

2. Stainless steel containers

Stainless steel is a new type of container material. Its main advantages are high strength, no rust, and good corrosion resistance. It does not need maintenance during use. The disadvantage is that it requires a large investment. Generally, stainless steel is used to make tank containers.

3. Aluminum container

The main components of this type of freight container use an appropriate amount of various light aluminum alloys. There are two types of aluminum containers: one is steel frame aluminum plate; the other is only steel at both ends of the frame, and the rest are aluminum. The main advantages are light weight, no rust, beautiful appearance, good elasticity, and not easy to deform. The main disadvantage is that it is expensive and easy to be damaged by collision. Generally speaking, aluminum alloy materials are often used for special containers, such as refrigerated containers. The service life of containers made of this type of material is longer than that of steel containers, generally 15 to 16 years. It is worth noting that due to poor welding and wear resistance of aluminum alloy materials, fatigue strength is insufficient. Therefore, the corner fittings, corner columns and frame structures of aluminum alloy containers generally still use steel.

4. FRP container

The FRP container is made of FRP composite panels on the steel frame. General cargo containers, refrigerated containers, tank containers, etc. can be made of this material. The main advantages are good heat insulation, anti-corrosion and chemical resistance, which can prevent condensation in the box caused by sudden weather changes, high strength, good rigidity, can withstand large stress, easy to clean, and easy to repair. Larger volume, etc.; its main disadvantages are larger self-weight, higher cost, and the problems of plastic aging and reduced strength at the screwed bolts.

The characteristics of freight containers determine that there is a big difference between shipping container leasing and ordinary leasing. This difference is not only reflected in the process of signing the leasing contract, but also in the actual performance process. If we always use the cognition of ordinary leasing to discuss Shipping container leasing is obviously not true, so we must first understand the container itself.
