About Standard Reefer Containers

In the previous issue, we introduced to you that Orient International can manufacture standard dry containers, and today DFIC will introduce to you the star product of DFIC standard reefer shipping containers.

1. Basic introduction of reefer shipping containers

As we all know, standard reefer shipping containers are mainly suitable for sea transportation, short-distance road transportation and storage. It is usually used for shipping frozen food, fruits and vegetables, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, precision electronic instruments and other products that have certain temperature requirements. The biggest difference between a refrigerated container and an ordinary dry container is that the refrigerated container has a refrigeration device that can adjust the temperature inside the container.

2. Common types of reefer shipping containers

The most common cold boxes on the market are 20 reefer container and 40RH. The outer dimensions of the 20RF cold box are the same as those of ordinary 20GP dry cargo boxes, but due to the insulation layer of the box body, the inner size of the cold box is smaller than that of the dry cargo box, with an inner volume of 28.4 cubic meters. The maximum gross weight of 20RF is the same as the standard dry box, which is 30.48 tons.

40RH corresponds to 40HC in the dry container, and its outer dimensions are consistent with 40HC. Also due to the insulation layer, the internal size is reduced accordingly, the internal volume is 67.9 cubic meters, and the maximum gross weight is 34 tons. Of course, no matter what type of dry reefer container it is, Dongfang International can produce it.

3. How cold is the reefer container?

The conventional refrigeration temperature of a refrigerated container is minus 25 degrees Celsius to minus 25 degrees Celsius, with an adjustable temperature difference of 50 degrees in between. When the refrigerator is working, an external industrial power supply is needed to ensure the temperature inside the box is stable. When transporting reefer shipping containers, we usually have to consider the reefer sockets of container ships and port terminals. They cannot be transported randomly like ordinary dry containers. They must be transported to a terminal with a dedicated power supply. In addition, for long-distance rail and road transportation, reefer shipping containers need to add generators and fuel tanks, or use customized power generation and refrigeration integrated units to meet long-term power supply needs.
